Comparing Decimals • First determine if one of the whole numbers is greater than the other. • If they are the same you need to add zeros to the right of the shorter number so that the two numbers have the same number of digits after the decimal. • Ignore the decimal and determine which number is greater.

  9. Day at the Mall • You went to the mall and purchased a shirt and pair of shorts. The shorts cost $14.35 and the shirt cost $8. How much money did you spend? (don’t worry about including tax)

  10. Lunch at the Mall • For lunch you decided to buy your friend lunch because she went shopping with you. The pizza was $12.73 and each soda was $1.05. How much money did you spend when you bought lunch for the two of you? (don’t worry about including tax)

  11. More Time at the Mall • When you bought the shirt and shorts yesterday at the mall, you had $50. How much did you have after you bought the shirt and shorts? How much did you have after you bought lunch?
