  18. Bible Reading

  19. BIBLE READING John 13: 1 It was before Passover meal and Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and to return to the Father. He had always loved his followers and he loved them to the end. Luke 22: 14 - 20 When the time came for Jesus and the disciples to eat, he said to them, ‘I have very much wanted to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer. I tell you that I won’t eat another Passover meal until it is finally eating in God’s Kingdom.

  20. Jesus took some bread in his hands and gave thanks for it. He broke the bread and handed it to is disciples. Then he said, ‘This is my body, which is given for you. Eat it as a way of remembering me!’ After the meal he took a cup of wine in his hands. Then he said, ‘This is my blood. It is poured out for you and with it God makes a new agreement.’

  21. The Message of Easter:

  22. On the Thursday before Jesus died, he had a special meal with his students, The Disciples.

  23. This meal was called the ‘Passover’ which is still a special Jewish feast. Jesus wanted to have this meal with them because he knew he would die soon.

  24. Jesus talked with them and told them many things that would happen.

  25. At the beginning of the meal, Jesus took a bowl of water and a towel.

  26. Then he went around each disciple and washed their feet.

  27. This was something only slaves would do. But Jesus did it anyway.

  28. Peter objected. He did not like the idea of Jesus, the Master, behaving like a slave.

  29. But Jesus explained that unless he would let Jesus do this for him, he was not a friend of Jesus.

  30. So Peter said, ‘Then give me a whole bath!!’

  31. ‘No,’ said Jesus. ‘Just you feet!’

  32. And that’s what happened

  33. After this, Jesus talked with them and told them about many things that would happen.

  34. Some of the things he said were about what would happen to the disciples. Other things about what would happen before he came again to the world.

  35. Jesus also told them that one of them would betray him.

  36. They were upset. They asked each other who it could be.

  37. Jesus said, ‘The one who dips his bread into the meat at the same time I do will do this.’
