Anatomy of the skin • 3 main layers
Take care of the skin • Healthy skin normal PH between 4.3 and 5.9 • Microorganisms on the skin can effect the PH • Additionally, prolonged contact with fluid, can increase the permeability of the skin • Fecal enzymes damage the epidermis and be very caustic to the skin • Briefs and pad help retain moisture and heat
Remember: • ONLY use ONE air flow pad • Greatly decreases flow of air causing diminished offloading of bed • Be the patients advocate- don’t use the pads and briefs unless the patient REALLY needs it
