  2. The Nature of God What characteristics, qualities, or features does God possess that make Him God?

  3. God Is Spiritual • John 4:23-24 • God is immaterial; He doesn’t have a body. • Luke 24:39 “See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh & bones, as ye behold me having.”

  4. God Is Invisible Read together Deuteronomy 4:8-20 We are told that the Israelites, “saw no manner of similitude” (i.e., form G. E.) when He appeared to them in Horeb, and therefore they were told not to make to themselves any image of Him.

  5. Wonderful Anticipation “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8) “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14) “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads” (Revelation 22:4).

  6. God Is Self-Existent • God is not dependent for His existence upon anything outside of Himself. • Exodus 3:13-14 “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? (14) And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”

  7. God Is Infinite • God is limitless, not constrained by space or time. • Contrariwise, all finite space is dependent upon Him, who is above space and time. • Omniscience, omnipotence, & omnipresence.

  8. God Is Alive He is called “the living God” I Thessalonians 1:9 “For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;” He is the source of life unto all things.

  9. I Timothy 6:12-13 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (13) I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession”

  10. The Source of Life? Materialism, Humanism, and Evolution are alternate possibilities to life in the minds of some people. John 10:10; Matthew 7:21; Heb.5:8-9; Rom. 6:16-17; Acts 10:34-35

  11. II Peter 1:1-12 “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: (2) Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”

  12. (3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

  13. (5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; (6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.”

  14. (8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. (10) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”

  15. (11) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (12) Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.”

  16. Hebrews 12:10 “For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.”

  17. II Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
