  3. Now Re was all-powerful, and he could take many forms. "I am Khepera at the dawn, and Ra at noon, and Atum in the evening," he said. And the sun rose and passed across the sky and set for the first time. Ra Atum Khepera

  4. Then he named Shu, and the first winds blew; he named Tefnut the spitter, and the first rain fell.

  5. Next he named Geb, and the earth came into being; he named the goddess Nut, and she was the sky arched over the earth with her feet on one horizon and her hands on the other; he named Hapi, and the great River Nile flowed through Egypt and made it fruitful. Nut Geb Hapi

  6. The goddess Nut and the god Geb had 2 daughters, Isis and Nephthys, and 2 sons, Seth and Osiris. Isis married Osiris and Nephthys married Seth. Isis Nephthys Seth Osiris

  7. Osiris was the king of the earth and Isis was the queen. Osiris was a good king and he ruled over the earth for many years.

  8. However, all was not well. Seth was very jealous of Osiris because he wanted to be ruler of the earth. He grew angrier and angrier until one day he killed Osiris. Seth then became king of the earth.

  9. Isis was so upset that she went looking for Osiris’s body. When she found it she turned into a falcon and flapped her wings to bring him back to life. Osiris went down to rule the underworld as he was the only person to live after death.

  10. However, secretly Isis and Osiris had a son called Horus. Horus battled against Seth for 3 long days and nights and eventually won to become king of the earth like his father before him.

  11. Seth was sentenced to sailing the boat that carried the sun across the sky. He had to battle the serpent of darkness that eats the sun every night.
