  5. Japanese • Japanese next major group • Why? • Better life • Help family in Japan • Overpopulation • Make Japan look good to world • Balance out Chinese • Mainly men, from the country prefectures.

  6. Korean • Koreans next major group. • why? • Better life • Help family in Korea • Kick out Japanese in Korea • Balance out Japanese

  7. Filipinos • Last major group to arrive • Why? • Better life • Help family in Philippines • Balance out Japanese

  8. Activity • You will be creating a poster encouraging people to immigrate to Hawaii to work on the sugar plantations. • Write your name on the back of the poster. • Have a slogan, have a pitch for the people to come. • Have a picture. • Your audience will be poor, uneducated people, mainly men. • Make it neat and colorful. • You will have about 30 minutes to do this.
