Objectives of Day Three

Day Three's objectives focus on the sui generis protection of plant varieties, specifically through the UPOV system. Participants will explore the key provisions of UPOV and compare plant varietal protection with patent protection. Additionally, the relationship between this protection and other legal issues, including traditional knowledge and farmers’ rights, will be discussed. The sessions will also cover the TRIPS Agreement and relevant WIPO treaties, the impact of IP laws on genetic resources management, as well as resources for staying updated on these laws and policies.
