  6. National Science and Engineering Week 2008 RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 0.2 FTE £10k RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.12 FTE £10k THEME: Promotion. AIM: At least 550 engineering events. STRATEGIC GOAL: Perception of engineering. Supply of engineers. STATUS: Week held 7-16 March. Current estimate is 689 events. Project completion in June after publication of BA impact report. Role of the ETB in the 2009 Week?

National Science and Engineering Fair 2009 National Science and Engineering Fair 2009 National Science and Engineering Fair 2009 RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 1.4 FTE £10K (ETB) RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.25 FTE £16k STATUS: Venue (QEII Conf Centre) booked. Prospectus, ITTs for event mgt and PR in draft form £1M funding needed £100k from Gatsby/RAEng in place £300k bids submitted to Charities £150k identified from DIUS £? Institutions Headline and Corporate sponsors THEME: Promotion AIM: Deliver national celebration of STEM in March 2009 (includes National Science Competition) STRATEGIC GOAL: Improve perception of engineering

Engineering Campaign RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 1.9 FTE £297K RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.33 FTE £29.5k STATUS: Partnerships with RDA’s Student placements Nuffield Engineering Bursaries Lecturer recognition and training Targeted engineering message THEME: Promotion AIM: To convert more student engineers in FE to engineers in the workplace STRATEGIC GOAL: Improve supply of engineers

Engineering UK 2008 RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 2.2 FTE £100k RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.1 FTE £0k THEME: Research AIM: Publication November 2008 (with more robust data on demand) STRATEGIC GOAL: Improve perception of engineering STATUS: Feedback from Eng 2007. Engineering definition from SIC &SOC Codes to provide baseline. Data being defined, sourced and cut. Publication launch 3 December.

  10. Perceptions of Engineering 2008 RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 0. FTE £25k RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.0 FTE £0k STATUS: Project plan under development. Need to discuss with RAEng then Design and develop research brief. THEME: Research AIM: Robust monitor of effectiveness of Promotion activities. STRATEGIC GOAL: Improve perception of engineering.

  11. SET & the City RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 0.2 FTE £45K RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.02 FTE £3.5k THEME: Research AIM: Raise awareness of contribution of Engineering and Technology to the Economy. STRATEGIC GOAL: Awareness and Credibility STATUS: Scoping event for November

Careers Information RESOURCES ALLOCATED: 0.6 FTE £50k RESOURCES CONSUMED: 0.1 FTE £0.5k THEME: Education and Skills AIM: Deliver to every secondary school and on-line (www.enginuity.org) STRATEGIC GOAL: Improve supply of engineering. STATUS: ASE and SSAT Engineering Events. 2008 topics agreed with CAP. Feedback questionnaires being analysed. Collaboration with Science Council and CMS (DCSF) on maths careers to Integrate careers websites
