  1. Changes in the Hope GPA Calculation South Effingham High School

  2. Changes apply to all graduates who begin college in 07-08 and all years following

  3. SEHS will send transcripts directly to GSFC • High Schools will no longer calculate HOPE GPA • GSFC will calculate HOPE eligibility • Transcripts will also be sent directly to Georgia colleges and universities through the transcript exchange process

  4. GPA requirement has changed • Students who complete a College Prep Diploma must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale • Students who complete a Technical/Career Prep Diploma must have a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale

  5. Scale Conversion • A=4.0 (90-100 grades at SEHS) • B=3.0 (80-89 grades at SEHS) • C=2.0 (70-79 grades at SEHS) • F=0 (0-69 grades at SEHS

  6. Grades for all ATTEMPTED academic courses will now count in HOPE GPA • All English courses • All Mathematics courses • All Social Studies courses • All Science courses • All Foreign Language Courses

  7. Middle School Credits will not count in HOPE GPA • If a student received credits from the middle school they attended, these credits will count towards graduation, but not towards the HOPE GPA

  8. HOPE will not include honors points • Honors points that are added to AP classes will be included in the HOPE GPA (SEHS adds 5 points to AP Classes and the GSFC will remove these 5 points and then add back .5 points on the 4.0 scale) • Honors points that are added for all other classes do not count for HOPE, but DO count for class rank, college admissions, etc.

  9. No Rounding will be done by the GSFC • A student who has a 2.99 GPA will not be eligible for HOPE • No grades higher than 4.0 will be allowed

  10. How to Calculate HOPE GPA • Convert all Academic classes’ numeric grades to a 4.0 scale grade • Multiply each grade in step 1 by the credit value of the course • Add up all values in step 2 • Divide the total from step 3 by the total number of credits Attempted by the student

  11. Example: Grades4.0 ScaleCredits Algebra=89 ==> 3.0 X 1.0 =3.0 English=92 ==> 4.0 X 1.0 =4.0 8.0 total Psychology=76 ==> 2.0 X .5 =1.0 2.5 credits attempted 8.0 divided by 2.5 credits= 3.2 GPA
