  1. Asbestos By Angeline Low

  2. Here’s some background info. • Asbestos is a set of the six silicate minerals that can easily attracted to physical properties • They all have a long, thin, fibrous crystal • Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers and builders in the late 19th century because of its sound absorption

  3. How asbestos affect you • Just by inhaling the asbestos fibers, it can cause a serious illness, including deadly lung cancer • Mesothelioma :a formerly rare cancer strongly associated with exposure to amphibole asbestos • Asbestosis: a type of pneumoconiosis

  4. Where are you exposed? • By the first century AD, Greeks and Romans claimed to have observed that slaves involved in the weaving of asbestos cloth were afflicted with a sickness of the lungs. • While the study describes the cause of death as chalicosis, and pneumoconiosis, the employment of the fifty workers whose death prompted the study suggest that the root cause was asbestos or mixed asbestos-cotton dust exposure.

  5. Health affect of Asbestos exposure • Lung Cancer • Mesothelioma • Digestive System Cancer • Asbestosis [Lead to shortness of breath.]
