  1. Functions of the parts of the Microscope Ocular-contains lenses to increase magnification; the Leica DM E is binocular (contains two oculars) which can be focused independently. The right ocular also contains a pointer. Body Tube-holds lenses of eyepiece and objectives a set distance from each other Nosepiece Ring-holds the objectives and rotates them into position Objectives-contain lenses which produce different magnifications; color coded Red: scanning objective, magnifies 4X Yellow: low power objective, magnifies 10X Blue: high dry objective, magnifies 40X White: oil immersion objective, magnifies 100X Arm-supports the body tube and nosepiece. Should be used as a “handle” when carrying Mechanical Stage-supports the slide Mechanical Stage Knobs-move the stage and slide holders to position the slide SubstageCondenser-provides resolution SubstageCondenser Focusing Knob-positions the condenser for desired resolution AperatureDiaphragm Ring- regulates the amount of light passing through the condenser Illumination Control Switch- turns the light on and off and adjusts the light intensity Base-supports the microscope Lamp-located in the Base and provides light to shine through specimen Fine Adjustment Knob-used for fine focusing Coarse Adjustment Knob-moves the stage up or down to bring the specimen into focus
