Funding • “After School Community Learning Program” grant through the Minnesota Department of Education • Grant total is $299,295.31 for a two-year period (expires in August of 2009). • More than 220 applicants applied and 21 projects were selected statewide. • Provides enrichment to elementary, middle and high school out of school time programs

PRIMEtime Program Components Each PRIMEtime site offers: • Transportation to and from the program • Homework assistance • Daily skill-building workshops • One-on-One mentoring • Cultural- and gender-specific groups • College and career exploration • Youth leadership opportunities • Family events • Service-learning experiences

  4. Elementary and Middle School PLUS Programs • Serve students in Grades K-8 • Provide Targeted Services for Math, Reading and Social Skills • Provide Enrichment Activities • Arts and Crafts • Structured Recreation • Mentoring • Homework Help • Field Trips • Guest Speakers • Service Learning activities

  5. High School Program • Homework Help • Club Latino • Aztec Dancing • TORCH • PRIMEtime Fellows

Northfield Union of YouthThe Key • Serves youth ages 12-20 • Provides free after school programming and enrichment opportunities • Book Club, Photo Club, Art Project, Cooking Class, Writing Workshop, Key Radio, Garden Club, Skateboard Coalition, and others • Mentoring • College Preparation • Youth-Run Business Micro-Grants (funded by HCI) • Field Trips • Civic Engagement • Community Service

Summer PLUS Program • Six weeks of free programming, plus three additional weeks, partnering with the Northfield Area YMCA in August • Transportation provided • Five hours per day Monday through Thursday • 301 students served in Grades K-8 • Eleven high school PRIMEtime Fellows served as program assistants

  10. PRIMEtime Numbers • 1,169 local youth (unduplicated) participated in a PRIMEtime program last year • 36% are elementary age • 22% are middle school age • 42% are high school age • 214 attended more than 30 different days • 43% are students of color • 53% are males • 47% are females

Results: Academic Measurements - Grant Required • 2a) At least 60% of 198 students in Year 1 will demonstrate improvement in core academic subjects such as math, reading, and/or language arts during the reporting period. • 2b) At least 90% of 198 students in Year 1 will remain in school and progress toward graduation during the reporting period. • 1a) At least 50% of 198 students in Year 1 will improve their knowledge of community resources during the reporting period. • 1b) At least 70% of 132 middle/high school students in Year 1 will improve their knowledge of career and postsecondary educational opportunities during the reporting period.

Results : Knowledge of Community Resources, Career Choices, Graduated or Advanced Grade Level • 188 of 258 (73%) PRIMEtime students indicated an improved knowledge of community resources during the Year 1 reporting period. (Grant Goal = 50%) • 136 of 170 (80%) PRIMEtime students from grades 6-12 reported during Year 1 that they had talked with their teacher, school counselor or school social worker about their college plans or career choice and the classes needed for that choice. (Grant Goal = 70%) • Of the 217, 211 (97%) advanced to the next grade level or graduated; 2 (1%); were retained and 4 (2%) are in the system but have incomplete data records. (Grant Goal = 90%)
