  2. Allied Health Assisting Medical Assisting • Class is double blocked • 1st Class is dedicated to the administrative skills : Medical Records Management ICD-9 Coding CPT Coding Insurance Claims Management Skills/ Human Resource

Allied Health Assisting Medical Assisting • 2nd Period is dedicated to Clinical Skills: Minor Surgery: Wound Care, Suture Removal, Staple Removal, Assisting with Lumbar Punctures, Assisting with Labor and Delivery Assisting with Physicals Phlebotomy and laboratory skills EKG’s Vision Testing Hearing Testing

National Certifications • 9th and 10 grade , if completed with a 70% or 2.0 Basic Health Care Worker- RMEC/ BLS- CPR, First Aid , OSHA, Medical Error’s, and HIPPA certification. • 11th Grade- Certified Electrocardiogram – CET (National Certification) • 11th Grade 2nd semester- Certified Phlebotomist- NHA (National Certification) • 12th Grade- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant- - NHA ( National Certification) • 12th Grade- 2nd semester- Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA) – National Certification

  5. Allied Health Assisting Medical Assisting • Students are earning college credit while enrolled at High school level. (3 credits for Health Science Core if completed program.) (HSC003) • Student will start clinical rotations in approximately October and 2 weeks per month. This grade will be a pass or fail. No clinical time can be made up. (Unexcused or Excused) • In April there will be a mandatory Parent meeting for all students wishing to complete the MA program at RMEC. ( This is a 6-8 week period that can be completed at the vocational program)

  6. Allied Health Assisting Medical Assisting • During this time the students will be responsible to transport themselves to a facility to complete 160 hours of clinical time. • Students must graduate from RMEC, Pass the TABE test, Pass the MA interview and then they will receive a letter of acceptance in the end of May.

  8. EKG/ Phlebotomy • Your son or daughter has entered into the first year of their Career training. They are studying Medical Assisting. • In the first Semester they are taking EKG (Electrocardiography) • In the Second Semester they are taking Phlebotomy. • If they are able to pass the class with 70 % or more and have 3 or fewer absences per semester, they will sit for their first National Certification Exam in December.

  9. EKG • 1st Semester is EKG. They learn: • Basic anatomy of the heart. • How to perform an EKG. • How to interpret an EKG. • How to perform a 24 hr monitor • How to perform Stress Testing • They will need to complete 10 EKG’s, 2 24 hour monitors and perform 2 stress tests before December. Students will be required to volunteer to be patients in order to accommodate these requirements. • They will test in December. If they pass they will be considered a Certified Electrocardiograph Technician (CET).

  10. Phlebotomy • 2nd Semester the students will be in Phlebotomy. They will learn: • How to draw blood via various methods. • How to perform a urinalysis. • How to perform cholesterol testing, glucose testing and blood typing. • How to identify microorganisms in the blood and urine via the microscope. • How to indentify different bacteria’s via microbiology.

  11. Phlebotomy • Students will be required to get blood from their fingers to perform some testing. • Students will be required to perform these functions in their senior year on live patients. • If student passes course with a 70%, has less than three absences per semester ( 75 seat hours are required)student will be offered to take the National examination for phlebotomy in May.

Health Science II • 10th Grade student class • Prior to entering into strand area • Students will be learning: • Human Growth and Development • Medical Law and Ethics • Prep for job entry- Resume, Cover Letters and applications. • Researching Career advancement • CPR- First Aid • Clinical Skills- Temp.’s, B/P’s, Respirations • Strand Skills

Health Science II • HOSA- Medical Career Leadership Organization • HOSA Competition- 11/8/2011, 12/5/2011, and 1/21/2012. • Student ‘s are able to compete in any area and are encouraged to compete in area’s that they are interested in pursuing. • College Project- Career Research, College Application, FACTS.org, Fastweb.com and college budget. • Schoolrack.com- has a syllabus containing all assignments from the first day to the last. You can see posting from me to the students with reminders.
