  2. Objectives • Objective: We will convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to improper fractions. • Language Objective: We will use key words convert, mixed number, and improper fraction.

  3. Vocabulary • convert – to change from one form to another • mixed number – a whole number and a fraction • improper fraction – a fraction larger than one whole; the numerator is larger than the denominator

  4. Mixed Numbers • A mixed number has a part that is a whole and a part that is a fraction. 3 1 = 4

  5. Write the mixed number: 3 3 = 4

  6. Write the mixed number: 1 5 = 2

  7. Write the mixed number: 2 2 = 3

  8. Mixed Number → Improper Fraction • Multiply the whole number times the denominator • Add your answer to the numerator • Put that number over the denominator Add the numerator Put that number over the denominator Multiply the whole number times the denominator + 1 5 2 2 2 x 1 5 2 = 2 2
