Presentation Transcript
Digestive System • What is the name of the body system that breaks down food into nutrients (protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, water) for your body’s cells?
Cells • They grow and divide. • They take in water & nutrients • They get rid of wastes • What are the smallest living structures in the human body?
Involuntary • Which kind of muscles are being used when you digest food, breathe, or pump blood around your body? (voluntary or involuntary)
Cardiac • Your body has 3 kinds of muscles: skeletal, smooth and cardiac. • What kind of muscle is the heart made of?
Alveoli…lungs • Where do red blood cells pick up oxygen and drop off carbon dioxide?
Bones • What body tissue makes red and white blood cells?
Smooth Muscle • What kind of muscle (skeletal, cardiac, smooth) helps you breathe (diaphragm) and moves food through the digestive system?
Large Intestine • Waste from the food you eat move through this musculartube • Water is squeezed from the wastes and then recycled back into your body.
Blood Cells • What kind of cells do bones make?
Trachea • The epiglottis is a flap that covers the opening of this tube. • Every time you inhale, air travels through this tube into your lungs.
White Blood Cells • What kind of blood cells fight pathogens?
Skeletal System • This system supports your body. • It makes blood cells. • It protects vital organs (heart, lungs, brain)
Muscular System • What body system moves your bones, your body parts? • This system helps you breathe (diaphragm) • It helps you digest food too.
Small Intestine • This digestive tube is lined with villi (they’re like sponges, they absorb the nutrients). • This digestive organ is where the red blood cells pick up the nutrients from the digested food.
Respiratory System • Which system takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from your body?
Diaphragm • This smooth muscle helps your lungs inhale and exhale.
Voluntary • What kind of muscles are being used when you kick a ball, swim, or hold a pencil? (voluntary or involuntary)
Alveoli • What is the name of the tiny air sacs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide gases?
Oxygen and Glucose • What are the two products of photosynthesis?
Esophagus • Peristalsis moves food through this muscular tube. • This food tube is lined with smooth muscles
Circulatory System • Which system moves blood around your body?
Reproductive System • egg and sperm cells • This system creates more individuals, offspring.
Excretory System • This system removes wastes from your body.
Liver • This organ stores nutrients for your body. • Red blood cells pick up nutrients here when needed.
Stomach • A muscular bag the mixes and mashes the food with acids.
