Frederik Willem de Klerk: A Journey Towards Democracy in South Africa

Frederik Willem de Klerk, born on March 18, 1936, played a pivotal role in South Africa's transition from apartheid to democracy. After graduating in law from Potchefstroom University in 1958, he joined the National Party and later became a key figure in the House of Assembly and President. De Klerk is known for unbanning political parties, including the ANC, and for working with Nelson Mandela, with whom he shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. His commitment to reform paved the way for a new democratic system of governance.

  1. By: Owen Lewis Welcome- Frederik Willem de Klerk Status- I have recently gradated from Potchefstroom University. I got a degree in law.(1958) Status Update- I have been elected to the Parliament for the National Party of South Africa.(1972) Status Update- I am the leader of the House of Assembly of South Africa.(1986) Status Update- I am the president of South Africa. I plan on working on a new non-apartheid law. It is similar to “one person, one vote”.(1989) “There’s nothing new about change.” Date of Birth- March 18, 1936 Wife- Elita Georgiades Children- Willem, Susan, Jan de Klerk Elita Georgiades Willem de Klerk

I was born at Johannesburg, South Africa. I am apart of the National Party. Apartheid is a South African system of segregation. I established an anti-apartheid government. Status Update- I have unbanned many political groups, including the African National Congress(ANC). Soon, a meeting will be held about ending apartheid and making a better democracy.
