  6. Board Layout • Bottom left: Common cathode layout • Bottom right: Common anode layout • Top: Aggressive layout • We opted for a third layout on the board instead of implementing a reversible common anode/cathode layout. We can use this board with both the AOC and Emcore VCSELs.

  7. Keys to design • Good design practice and saving space allowed us to fit three layouts onto one miniboard. • We may use both our primary AOC VCSEL or our secondary Emcore VCSEL with the two bottom layouts.

  8. Design Elements (Continued) • The use of 06x03 passive components allowed for shorter lines, which is critical for avoiding large transmission lines with the high-frequency signal. • We determined that the 06x03 sized parts would not be significantly more difficult to solder than the 08x05 parts.

  9. Estimated Budget

  10. Ordering final components • The 06x03 capacitors were backordered, but should be in and shipped in time for our return for break. • The PCBs will be ordered before break and should also be in our possession after break. • The intention is for all components to have arrived for our return from break.

  11. Next Week • Order PCBs • First written report • Follow-up on backordered parts • Receive parts • If all parts are received, we may build our first board and begin testing • Complete website • Spring break fun
