  3. Welcome to 8th grade! • I will introduce you to our classroom and the8th grade. • Please, raise your hands if you have any questions and wait to be called on. Thank you!

  4. All About Me • My background • I grew up in Brandon, MS and graduated from Brandon High School. • I attended Delta State University where I played soccer. • I completed my education at Mississippi State University. • I moved to Searcy, Arkansas and I taught at Southwest Middle School. • This is my second year at Northwest.

  7. Class Rules • Our classroom is a community. We have rules in our community to help us get along with each other. • Our class rules are: • Be Respectful • Be Responsible • Be Ready • Consequences: • Verbal Warning • Phone call to Mom/Dad/Guardian with written assignment • Written referral and visit to the principal’s office

  8. ENTERING my classroom • Make sure 2 pencils are sharpened before sitting. • Sit quietly and begin your Jumpstart. • Jumpstarts will be EVERY DAY for completion. That mean a 100 or a 0 will be given. EASY A!!!!! We will always go over them!

  9. Leaving my classroom • Make sure you have everything you will need for homework. • Everything is off of the floor and out of your desk. • The bell does not dismiss you! • Do not leave your desk until Mrs. East dismisses you.

  10. Asking a question • ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS raise you hand • Never interrupt Mrs. East or another student

  11. What you need for the day • Always have two pencils • Always have Science Binder/Notebook • Homework (if given)

  12. Attention Getter • If you can here me……clap TWICE • When you hear my voice, all of your conversations should stop. If talk while I am talking, I consider that to be very rude.  (pet peeve)

  13. Restroom • You will be given a set of BATHROOM PASSES to use after you return your lab rules permission form. • You must keep those passes in your notebook. • No pass = No Bathroom. • If you need to go to the restroom, raise you hand and ask for the pass. • I will not let you go during instruction or during an assignment.

  14. Throwing away trash/ Sharpening pencils • Keep trash at your desk during instruction or during an assignment. • During free time,feel free to get up and throw away trash. • DO NOT get up during instruction to sharpen a pencil! • You don’t have to ask me.

  15. Student work • Your paper should always have your name and date. • Always turn in assignment into the box labeled for that class period • Absent Work is the responsibility of the student. It is due within a week of the date you missed. • HOMEWORK: Will be given AT LEAST once a week. I will check homework for completion. That means you will get a 100 or a 0. Homework is for your benefit and will be used as reference material in class. • Homework and Jumpstarts will be averaged together as a participation SUMMATIVE grade at the end of each nine weeks! EASY A!

  16. HALLWAY EXPECTATIONS • You must have a pass to leave my room for any reason. (black pass) • Bathroom passes will be limited.  • DO NOT ask to leave the room during an assignment or instruction. • Be where you are supposed to be, and we won’t have any problems.

  17. Emergencies • Fire: line of quickly and quietly. FOLLOW ME out of the building. • Tornado: Quickly and quietly get out of you desk and FOLLOW ME to our tornado location (usually in front of back office).

  18. Visitors • Students enters the room: continue doing your work. • Principals enters the room: continue doing your work. • Barrack Obama enters the room: continue doing your work. • If Jay Z and Queen B enter the room: continue doing our work.

  19. LOTTERY!!!!! • Volunteers raise their hand and wait to be called on. • If I call on you,CONGRATUATIONS you have won the lottery!!! I expect you to have something meaningful to contribute, which means you must be paying attention. • Sassy comments will not be tolerated. 

  20. Signal response • Thumbs up or thumbs down • Funny responses: legs up, arms out, sit on the floor…..ect. • Example: Are you finished? Thumbs up or thumbs down. • Example: Arms up if you are hungry!

  21. Going to the board • Going to the board is a privilege not a right. • I expect for you to answer the question only. • Writing on the board inappropriately will result in you not getting to visit that area of the room very often. • SMART BOARD  My Smart Board has a personality. It will do crazy things, so just be nice to it.

Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you ever see theirs.   23. Cell phones • We do use cell phones in class. You may use yours under the following conditions: • Parent/Guardian has signed permission form • Parent/Guardian allows your phone to be at school • You follow all instructions • When I ask the phone is OFF

  24. Substitute expectations • I expect for you to treat the substitute with the utmost respect. • I will give he or she specific instructions about the day don’t argue for any reason. • Follow our routines as if I were in the room. • IF HE OR SHE LEAVES YOUR NAME, I WILL WRITE YOU UP NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

  25. Group work expectations • Including everyone • Complete the task by the deadline • Use classroom voices • Be a team player • What else would be important?

  26. random • My desk (my bubble): always ask permission • Tissues: in several places around the room. You don’t have to ask to get up unless we are having class or doing an assignment. • LUNCH: 1:15 • HOW WILL WE EVER SURVIVE?? 
