  1. Chapter Notes Cornell Style

  2. Notes from Chapters • The general rule if thumb is ONE page of notes for every THREE pages of reading. • This varies depending on size of writing, use of concise abbreviations, and effectiveness of using short phrases • These Chapter notes are your long term knowledge of the entire course leading to the May 2015 APUSH test

  3. Cornell Notes • This is the favorite college level note taking system. It asks you to process several things • Take notes like always in right side opening • Highlight key points and terms • In the “left column” ask follow up questions, index key terms, or copy highlights • On the bottom one is supposed to write a 30 word summary of the page – that is classic Cornell, but few people have the patience to do this last part

  4. Cornell on line • If you have NO experience with Cornell there are several good tutorials on line or in You Tube; lots to select – here is one • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtW9IyE04OQ • Cornell is not required or imperative but it is highly recommended – it works well in ALL subjects • When in doubt ask an AVID student about Cornell

  5. Example • I have copied three pages for a student who excelled at Cornell notes (without the ending summary) • On the next two slides – notice the colored highlights, the clear concise notes and the use of the “left” margin as part of the process.
