  2. A Merged 802.15.4k FSK Proposal • This proposal represents a merged FSK proposal from ETRI, Itron and Orange/Elster. Based on these previously presented proposals: • ETRI • 802.15-11-0609-01-004k • Itron • 802.15-11-0602-00-004k • Orange/Elster • 802.15-11-0605-01-004k • MAC features from the proposals above are not covered in this merged PHY proposal <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>

Considerations for a Merged FSK PHY • Tunable PHY for multiple applications and regional regulations • Provide flexible options to achieve PAR goals • A path to interoperation with other rapidly deploying standards, particular 15.4g • Adopt PHY parameters that can be easily accessed by 15.4g networks <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>

Properties for Compatibility • The 15.4k FSK data rate must be reasonable accessible to a 15.4g coordinator (e.g. 25 kbps is one-half of the lowest 15.4g MR-FSK) • 15.4k may choose a subset of parameter values from 4g that are more “battery-compatible”, • e.g. a smaller range of choices for preamble than 4 to 1000 octets of “01010101” that make sense for a battery powered endpoint • Be accessible from 4g networks, but stay simple to support battery operation and 15.4k PAR goals <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>

Achieving High Link Budgets in Varying Regional Regulatory Environments • Achieving a high link budget in some regions (USA) is much easier than others (Korea USN band) • e.g. +36 dBm EIRP versus +10 dBm • In challenging regulatory environments, flexibility in PHY modes of operation may be necessary. Such as use of: • Additional spreading • FSK variants <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>

Study Items • SHR • Preamble Length • SFD • Information Elements: over the air versus commissioned • Detailed Definition of MHR and PHR • Precise definition of best LQI/RSSI/… approach, such as: • MAC monitors and logs good and bad packet decodes per channel at coordinator (Channel identification provided by PHY) • PHY measures and logs: • Channel noise at the coordinator and/or endpoint • FEC Statistics • PHY shall be able to report LQI of decoded packets • Want a higher resolution indicator such as 2 dB steps of RSSI to support >120 dB link budget requirement <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>

Summary • This merged FSK proposal presents an FSK PHY that provides: • Flexibility for deployment in multiple applications and regulatory regimes, while • Meeting the PAR requirements for high path loss environments • Maximizing the available channel coherence time • A path to interoperability with 15.4g networks <ETRI>,<Itron>,<Orange/Elster>
