ASSESSMENT Final examinations in Y11 • Listening & Understanding =25 % • Speaking= 25% Conducted by your teachers 2/ 3 tasks eg. role play / picture card / conversation • Reading & Understanding = 25 % A range of text types eg. adverts, literature, articles Short translation into English • Writing = 25% Different styles & topics eg. list, email, short translation into French/ Spanish

How it will make a difference? * The opportunity to travel and immerse yourself in different cultures and countries * Universities like students to at least have a language at GCSE level * 75% of the world’s population does not speak English * 60% of British trade is with non-English speaking countries * British business loses £millions every year because they can’t speak their customers’ language (buy in your native tongue and sell in the customers’ tongue) A linguist with English as their mother tongue plus another language is extremely valuable!

  10. My boss wanted to send someone to Valencia to learn a new language. He said it’d help the company attract more business from abroad. I really wanted to do it, but he picked him. All because he’d done a language before…… Having at least one foreign language keeps you one step ahead………

  11. She’s so beautiful. The woman of my dreams. I wish I could speak to her in her own language, then maybe I’d have a chance…. If only I’d taken a language qualification…
