Introduction: • You will be working to complete the introductory activities that will give you the background knowledge necessary to understand the deeper meaning of the screenplay, “Glory Road.” • On the surface, the script is about basketball in the 1960’s, but underneath the surface are many themes that have deeper meaning. • Once you complete all of the activities, we will begin reading,Glory Road!

Activity 1: Story and Theme Impression • Read The Sneetches, by Dr. Seuss and watch the movie by clicking on the links below: • Read The Sneetches • Watch Sneetches Movie • Read The Southpaw, by Judith Viorst: • http://www.readbag.com/blogs-muskegonisd-geigerr-files-2009-10-the-southpaw-by-judith-viorst • Based on the two readings and the video, what do you infer this drama and its theme will be mainly about? Answer in complete sentences on your answer sheet.

When you are done reading the website, list three interesting facts that you learned, then write a one-sentence summary of the page. 1.   7. Activity 5: Getting to know the Team & Players Directions: 1. Read the following sections of the website and answer the questions in the packet.  ”The Bear” “The Team”  ”The Year” 2.   9. Activity 7: Venn Diagram Directions: Flip through the following websites about the 1960’s (cars, fashion, pop culture, etc.) and listen to the music.
