Results Promote certification as a response to the EU TR • Immediate information needs • EU TR • Best practices: regional/country/business responses • Burden of DD shifting from operators to suppliers • Long supply chains (several producers/countries) • Role of certification in DD • Certification can provide relevant information to operators • Certification agencies demonstrated that they are adjusting their systems EU TR/VPA • Additional layer of control of certification systems • Role of large, multi national operators can influence debate

Action Points Awareness raising on the EU TR, VPA, Certification in producing/processing countries • EC/EU MS, certifiers, business sector/associations, civil society • Development of standardized information material, simplify the message • Create immediate mechanisms that can provide the required information Improvement of communication within supply side and between supply and demand side • Private sector, government initiatives (SVLK information point), civil society (WWF on Russia) • Inform what is already in place, south-south and regional dialogues Identify and develop synergies further • Involve certification actors in VPA processes (national process, pro-active role by certification agencies required) • Capacity building • Certification bodies transferring their knowledge to VPA processes • Target: increase cost efficiency and robustness of controlling legality
