  5. Math • Standards for all Classrooms • UPS • Vocabulary • Math Journals • Important Concepts • Problem Solving • Multiplication • Division • Measurement • Geometry

  6. SCIENCE • Science Journals • Science Vocabulary • Laboratory Investigations Important Concepts • We are learning the scientific process and how to critique scientific explanations. • We cover topics in physical, life, and earth science.

  7. Reading • Build on their comprehension foundation by adding new comprehension skills and strategieswhile exploring a multitude of genres • Delve more deeply into textsby summarizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating pieces of writing • Exposed to new vocabularythrough literature read in class, independent reading, and school textbooks • Literature Circles to address individual needs • Book Challenge will be assigned. Please check with your child’s reading teacher with any questions

  9. Spelling • Spelling Strategy every 2 weeks • Word lists will relate to strategy • Dictation test that includes the strategy being used

  10. Social Studies • Texas History • Various projects to deepen our understanding • Explore through reading • Important Concepts • Early colonization • Native Americans • Texas Revolution • Texas in the US

Homework Policy • Our homework policy is 10 minutes per grade level. • Therefore, 4th Grade can have up to 40 minutes of homework each night. • Homework will be recorded in your students agenda. • Go over and initial this with your student each night. • Please remember that their homework is theirs, and its purpose is to reinforce skills and strategies.

  13. Late Policy • 10 points will be deducted daily for each late assignment. • Students will be required to attend study hall to complete late assignments and unfinished homework.

  14. Absence Make-up Work The student has one day to make up work for every day absent. Example: Absent on Monday, student receives assignments on Tuesday. The student’s missed work would be due on Thursday.

  15. Communication Calendar/Report • First- Your child will receive a verbal warning. • Second- Your child will receive a signature with explanation. • Each signature is -2 points from their conduct grade • O- 0-5 Signatures • S- 6-10 Signatures • N- 11-15 • U- 16+ • Please check Calendar and initial when they receive a signature.

Communication • Communication Calendar/Report • Email • Agenda • Written Notes in Binders • Tuesday Folders • Telephone • Parent Teacher Conferences • If your child is getting home a different way, please send a paper note in to school. • There may be a substitute so the teacher will not be able to get the email.

  17. Important Times and Dates • Times • AM Snack • Recess 1:40 • Lunch 11:50, 11:55, 12:00 • Specials 9:45 • Dates • STAAR Writing Test –April 1st & 2nd • STAAR Math Test Tuesday, April 22 • STAAR Reading Test- Wednesday, April 23 • Austin Field Trip- May 16th

  18. Dress Code • Shorts and skirts must reach mid-thigh or longer. • Sleeveless shirts (three finger rule) should fit snuggly under the arms • Tube tops, halters, midriffs, spaghetti straps, and tank tops are prohibited. • Shirts should pass the arm raised test • No stomach showing when the arm is raised • P.E. days students must wear/bring tennis shoes/sneakers

  19. Volunteer Opportunities There are many ways for you to be involved in your child’s school experience: Classroom Helper(s) • Bulletin Boards • Tuesday Folders • Copies • Classroom Party

  20. Dismissal • Carpool/Walkers 3rd- 6th Side Door • Carpool/Walkers with siblings that are K-2nd meet at front door • Carpool signs are IMPORTANT to display
