  1. Amazon S3 – Target in AWS Data Migration Service

Amazon Web Services Data Migration Service – AWS DMS – is based in the cloud and ensures that relational databases, data warehouses, NoSQL databases, and others are effortlessly migrated from the source to the target. The migration may be from on-premises to the cloud, from a cloud to another cloud provider, and even from a cloud to on-premises. AWS DMS is a component of the AWS cloud and hence all the advantages associated with the cloud such as speed, flexibility, and security are a part of AWS DMS too. 

  3. In July 2019, Amazon announced that AWS DMS would henceforth support database migration through AWS DMS to S3(Amazon Simple Storage Service). S3 is usually used as target support in DMS while building data lakes. The data is then used with other services offered by AWS like Amazon EMR, Athena, and Redshift Spectrum. Organizations have long felt the need for a system that would support migration to S3 and this has now been met with the launch of AWS DMS to S3. 

  4. Amazon S3  S3 is provided by Amazon especially for those who have limited storage requirements but would want to keep their options open to quickly scale up to terabytes of data if needed. It also offers unmatched data scalability and durability with several benefits. Organizations can start new projects without having to add to their existing infrastructure for more storage resources. S3 also has highly optimized data protection, cost affordability, access management, and data replication functionalities. AWS DMS to S3 can be carried out both within and outside the region with S3 having the capability to run unlimited objects of Batch operations. 

  5. Several factors have to be considered before AWS DMS to S3 can be taken up. First, it has to be ensured that the S3 bucket is in the same AWS region as the DMS replication instance used in data migration. Next, the AWS account has an IAM role that can be accessed to write or delete to the target S3 bucket. It is also critical that the role must have tagging accessas objects being written in the S3 target bucket can then be tagged through the AWS DMS to S3.Finally, the IAM must have DMS – dms.amazonaws.com – as a part of the IAM as an additional entity. • Here is how the process of moving in AWS DMS to S3can be speeded up.  • Plan out the data migration when there is no possibility of a break in business functionality or downtime. An estimate has to be made of how long the migration will take. The next, and this is crucial, is to choose the best tools for AWS DMS to S3. Select AWS Direct Connect as it helps to set up an exclusive network connection between the data center and an AWS Direct Connect target location. For huge data volumes, use the AWS Snowball tool for the migration.
