Some of the new series he is working on are The Kane Chronicles (the first book being The Red Pyramid, which focuses on Egyptian Mythology; and The Heroes of Olympus (the first book being The Lost Hero), which is the sequel to the Percy Jackson series and still focuses on Greek Mythology, but Roman Mythology is also added. •  Riordan was raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1982 and the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, where he double-majored in English and history. Riordan taught English and history, including Greek mythology, in middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in San Antonio. He was awarded St. Mary's Hall's first Master Teacher Award in 2002.

  3. About Rick Riordan (continued) • As a novelist, Riordan has created many successful series. The multi-award-winning Tres Navarre mystery series, intended for adults, follows the fast-paced adventures of an erudite Texan private eye. Riordan also helped create the young adult series The 39 Clues; he authored several of its books, including The Maze of Bones, which topped the New York Times Best Seller list on September 28, 2008. His Percy Jackson and the Olympians series features a twelve-year-old boy who discovers he is the modern-day son of an ancient Greek god. Twentieth Century Fox purchased the film rights and released a feature film on February 12, 2010. Following the success of Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan created The Kane Chronicles, which features a modern-day Egyptian pantheon and two new sibling protagonists. Its first book, The Red Pyramid, was released on May 4, 2010; the sequel will be released on May 3, 2011. Riordan also created a sequel series to the Percy Jackson books, The Heroes of Olympus. Its first book, The Lost Hero, was released in the U.S. on October 12, 2010; the sequel, The Son of Neptune, is expected to arrive in October. Riordan plans to expand both series simultaneously. The Heroes of Olympus will have five books and The Kane Chronicles with three books. Rick Riordan lives in San Antonio with his wife and their two sons.

  4. The Lightning Thief • Percy Jackson is a twelve year old boy, diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Because of this and other strange things he doesn't know the truth about, he has been kicked out of every school he has attended and tends to get in trouble with the law frequently. While on a trip to a local beach cabin with his mother, his friend Grover is revealed to be a satyr and urgently tells Percy's mother that he must go to camp. As they are driving, their car is struck by lightning, and they are attacked by a Minotaur. The minotaur grabs Percy's mother, who dissolves into a gold shower of light, and then comes for Grover and Percy, who narrowly escape. Percy wakes up later in a cabin while being fed ambrosia, the food of the gods, by Annabeth Chase. He later finds out that he has arrived in Camp Half Blood, a secretive training ground and year-round camp for "half bloods" (demigods, children of unions between mortals and the Twelve Olympians). Half bloods seem to have ADHD because they have inborn battle reflexes, and dyslexia because their brains are hard-wired to read in Greek. After he is introduced to the camp, Percy is moved into the cabin of Hermes under the care of Luke. Hermes takes all newcomers until their Olympians parent claims them, which sometimes never happens. During a Capture the Flag game, Percy is attacked by Ares campers for making a fool of Clarisse. He heals when he steps into a river behind him, and is revealed as the son of Poseidon.

  5. The Sea of Monsters • Percy Jackson, accompanied by his friends Annabeth Chase, Clarisse La Rue and Tyson, his half brother, goes on a journey to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.

  6. The Titans Curse • Grover has discovered two new half-bloods at a military boarding school and needs his friends' help to protect them. It turns out, though, that the principal of the school is not what he seems, and he's not eager to give them up so easily. It will take not only the half-bloods, but also Apollo, and Artemis and her crew of Hunters to bring the kids back safely to Halfblood-Hill. Artemis, though, suspects that the monster guarding the school is only a shadow of the new evils that the Titan Lord Kronos and his minions have let loose upon the world. When Artemis disappears. and when the Oracle's cryptic messages lead the kids to head into danger to help rescue her Percy and his friends might be headed into their most dangerous adventure yet.

  7. The Battle of The Labyrinth • On Percy's orientation tour to Goode High School where his mother's new boyfriend Paul Blofis is teaching, Percy is forced once against to battle monsters. Percy escapes with help from a mortal, Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Percy and Annabeth then travel back to Camp as Percy's attacker had indicated that Luke was planning an invasion on Camp Half-Blood.Back at Camp, all appears well though there is a sense of impending doom. The number of campers had dropped as Half-Bloods have been either killed, turned traitor or disappeared in the last 3 years. There's also a new sword instructor, a mysterious Half-Blood calling himself Quintus with a hell hound named Mrs O'Leary for a pet. As the campers ponder how Luke intends to attack, Percy and Annabeth stumble over one of the entrances to the Labyrinth in the midst of their camp. With this the campers surmise that Luke intends to bring his forces in through the Labyrinth and they must start a quest to prevent Luke from finding a way to navigate the maze.

  8. The Last Olympian • The war between the Titans and the Olympian gods begins. Percy, nearly 16, and a fellow camper named Beckendorf intercept a ship carrying some of the Titan army and its leader, Lord Kronos. Kronos’ birth father and nemesis of the gods, has inhabited the body of a half-blood dissenter named Luke. Beckendorf dies when he and Percy blow up the ship, but Kronos survives. Percy escapes underwater to see his father, Poseidon, and his Cyclops brother, Tyson. He considers joining the battle they're waging to preserve the seas, but Poseidon urges him to return to Camp Half-Blood and help fight Kronos.
