  1. 10 m.'ye kdar boylanabilen, 5 m.'ye kadar taç çapı yapabilen, boylu çalılardır.Gövde kahverengidir. Yapraklar parlak yeşil renkte kalın, kenarlara düzenli dizilişlidir. Yeni sürgünler alev kırmızısı renktedir. Bitkinin adı buradan gelmektedir. Çiçekler beyaz renkli, tek tek değil şemsiye tipi kurullar halindedir. Meyeler küçük ve önemsizdir. Çelik ile üretilirler. Park ve bahçe düzenlemelerinde ilkbahardaki gösterişli rengi nedeniyle vurgu amaçlı soliter veya gruplar halinde kullanılırlar. Ayrıca sınırlama ve perdeleme amaçlı olarakta tercih edilirler.
