  2. PAST Committee Changes • PAST TC is in the midst of changing from an appointed committee to an elected committee. This year will be a difficult one for us as we move forward through the change process. • Individuals listed in various positions will continue to manage the PAST Technical Committee until elections are completed this fall and new individuals take over various tasks 2015/01/01. • The following elections will be held this year: • Chair: 4 year commitment (2-chair; 2-past-chair) –2 candidates running. • Vice-Chair: 6 year commitment (2-vice-chair; 2-chair; 2-past-chair) –2 candidates running. • 4 Members-at-Large: (nominally 4 year commitment) (highest vote–4 year, 2nd highest vote-3 year, 3rd highest vote- 2 year, 4th highest vote-1 year) –6 candidates running. • “Young Professional” Member-at-Large: 2 year commitment –2 candidates running. • PAST TC Member on AdCom: 4 year commitment –2 candidates running. • The March IEEE-NPSS newsletter had a request to the PAST membership to suggest candidate names for inclusion in the process – received some good suggestions. 4. Future/Past Conferences 50th Anniversary! • IPAC’12 been closed out!!!! Working the NA-PAC’13! PAST 2014/07/19 Stan Schriber

  5. Organization • Conference Chair: Steve Gourlay, LBNL • Scientific Program Chair: Alex Chao, SLAC • LOC Chair: Chan Joshi, UCLA • Treasurer: Centennial Conferences and Jan Hennessey, LBNL • Sponsorship Chair: Sandra Biedron, CSU • Date of Conference: Sept. 29 – Oct. 4 • Location: Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena, CA • NA-PAC’13 was the 26th in the series of xPAC conferences held in North America since 1965. • Outstanding conference scientifically, culturally, educationally, but not so well financially. • Waiting to get closed – too many people changes! PAST 2014/07/19 Stan Schriber

  6. Concerns • According to DOE, conference attendance numbers will not change within the next decade • Compared to NA-PAC’11 held in 2011 New York City • 879 attendees with 82% NA, 14% Europe, 4% Asia and SA – percentages about the same. No government restrictions, so ~720 NA attendees compared to ~405 for NA-PAC’13. • IPAC’13 in Shanghai and IPAC’14 in Dresden (poor NA attendance) ~ 5 months before • Initial NA-PAC’13 budget was reduced to ~700 from previous almost 900 at NA-PAC’11. Two months prior to the conference reduced budget to ~400 attendees. • Big problem with IEEE material for Dresden IPAC’14 membership desk PAST 2014/07/19 Stan Schriber

  7. PAST Update • New PAC OC Bylaws working well. • Actions Completed: At the PAST TC meeting (attended by John Verboncoeur) 2013/10/01 in Pasadena, it was decided to follow the IEEE-NPSS recommendation and become an elected TC – not an appointed one as it is now. On that basis, the TC decided Stan Schriber would remain the PAST TC Chair until elections in fall 2014 - no point having someone taking the role for a few months at this time. A Vice Chair, Ilan Ben-Zvi was named. New Const. and Bylaws were worked on and passed by IEEE-NPSS. Individuals were solicited to run for elected positions and all of this information was submitted prior to the IEEE deadline for elections this year. Other Work Continues • IPAC MOU for 3 regions, MOU with Asia, IUPAP discussions, PAC OC web pageon PAST page. PAST 2014/07/19 Stan Schriber
