  1. 6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

  2. Photoshop: • When making my product this was the first time that I had properly used this software so I have learnt a lot about it • Learnt how to get images on Photoshop to use for my front cover • Learnt how to put outer glows on my text and puffs to make the text stand out more on the page • Learnt how to put shapes on that I would use as puffs • Learnt how to cut out people from images(cutting) and remove backgrounds (magic wand tool – ctrl + d) • Feel more confident now when using Photoshop Indesign: • When making my product this was the first time that I had properly used this software • Learnt how to put images on Indesign for me to use • Learnt how to put text and shapes on my page • When putting on text I learnt how to change the colour of the text and font, also I learnt how to add an outline to the text to make it stand out • Still don’t feel so confident using Indesign as I prefer using Photoshop, but I am more confident than what I was at the beginning

  3. Wordpress: • When starting media studies this was the first time that I had used Wordpress and using a blog to present my work in general • Learnt how to add media such as images, videos and files to my blog posts, also with the images I learnt how to adjust the sizing of them Powerpoint: • I have used Powerpoint a number of times in the past to present work and do presentations so there wasn’t much more to learn from it during the process of constructing my product • However, I did learn how to embed a video from YouTube onto a Powerpoint slide

  4. Taking images: • Found that when taking images in natural light it can be too bright and can make the model either squint or can wash them out • If used correctly it can make the photo look attractive and will neither overexpose the photo nor make it poorly lit • Found that depending on the colour of clothing you wear it can wash out the colour when standing in the sunlight • The posing can also change the lighting and colouring of the photo too • When taking images outside when it is sunny it is best to have the model in the shade so the sunlight doesn’t make them squint or wash them out, plus it won’t make the photo too bright • Background can change a photo as well • Better to have a background that is quite plain but still quite nice to look at and not too busy as to draw your attention away from the main focus of the photo which is the model • Found that rule of thirds is crucial when taking images • Also best to keep in mind about the left side third, so it is best especially for the front cover image to have the model positioned on the right so then when it comes to putting on the text you can make use of the left side • Clothing also effects an image, the clothing must fit with what the magazine is about so with my music magazine the clothing my model had to wear had to fit in with the theme of rock • Learnt that in photos people shouldn’t really wear clothing that is branded or from a sports team as it makes it look as if the magazine is promoting and selling that brand or team

  5. Specific things that I found tricky or easy: • I found it tricky at first to do most things, like using Photoshop and Indesign as a whole but once I had enough practice with it I got used to it and I am now more comfortable using it • More comfortable using Photoshop as I found this easier to use than Indesign • I found it easy using Wordpress, Powerpoint and image taking, however I did find it tricky when I was embedding the videos from YouTube on to my Powerpoint slides Good technology is important to the magazine industry in general since good technology ensures that the magazine industry can make their magazines look the best that they can possibly be. Also good technology means that they can make their magazines look professional. Good technology is also reliable and efficient.

  6. Tech Tips For Next AS Year: • Make sure you back up your work and save it regularly to ensure that no work is lost, because if you lose any work then you will have to start it all again from the beginning! • Use YouTube to help you with work as well since their are guides on there that you can use that will help • Use sites like Pinterest for inspiration • Become familiar with the programmes so they are then easier to use • Don’t get stressed out or emotional whilst doing all of this work, because that won’t help anyone, especially you
