  2. Symptoms • Low-grade fever (less than 102° F) • Coughing up small amounts of mucus • Tiredness • Muscle aches

  3. Causes • Viral Pneumonia can be caused by… -Influenza virus -Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) -Varicella viruses (chickenpox) -Viruses that cause the common cold (such as parainfluenza and adenoviruses)

  4. Treatments • At Home - rest and drink plenty of fluids. • MedicalTreatment - anti-flu medicine amantadine(Symadine) rimantadine(Flumadine) oseltamivir(Tamiflu) zanamivir(Relenza) - varicella medicine zovirax - Respiratorysyncytial virus medicine

Prevention • Wash hands frequently and avoid coughing or sneezing near others. • If you get a flu shot every fall, you reduce your chances of getting influenza pneumonia. • If you have never had chickenpox, you can get a shot to prevent it. This reduces your chances of getting varicella pneumonia.
