This research project involves creating a multigenre paper with 7 pieces, including a formal research component and 6 pieces of your choice. Topics can range from historical events to personal reflections. The paper must have essential elements like a title page, letter to the reader, body with repetend, and works cited page. The research piece must be informative and include at least 15 facts from three sources. Each piece should have a clear beginning, middle, and end to ensure coherence. Creative freedom is encouraged, and students are advised to select topics that resonate with them. This project aims to help students express their individuality and deepen their understanding of themselves and their chosen topics.

Genre Requirements • 7 pieces total (bare minimum!) • 1 of the 7 pieces will be a formal research component • The remaining 6 pieces will be your own choice • 2 of these pieces will be “main pieces” (i.e. a page long each) • A minimum of 5 different genres represented here (in other words, 1 genre may be “doubled up” if needed)
Structure Requirements • Must include the following: • Title page* • Letter to the Reader* • Body with repetend • Works Cited page* *These do not count toward page or genre requirements
Topic Possibilities • A Person (famous, historical, relative) • A historical event (WWI, 9/11) • A problem with society (racism, abuse) • I-search (revealing/realizing oneself)

Research Piece • One of your pieces must be a researched, informative expository about your topic • Research piece will be used as essay portion of QLA assessment • Minimum of fifteen facts researched with three sources • Works Cited must also be turned in with research piece • Fact cards due this Friday 3 p.m. • Five paragraph essay format Why do I have to write a research piece? In order for the reader to “get” your topic, he/she must first understand the basics.
Body Cont’d • The other pieces can be mixed and matched off the main list • If there is another genre you can think of, let me know! • Body must have a beginning, middle, and end- the order must make sense
Repetend • Something added to your paper that repeats or continues. This creates unity among the various genre pieces (similar to weaving a thesis throughout a paper). • More on this later
Helpful Hints • Be creative. Choose a topic that is meaningful. The purpose of this paper is to help learn who you are and how you feel. • Be an individual. One student per topic.
