  2. About Rivers • A river is a natural watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, a lake, a sea, or another river. In a few cases, a river simply flows into the ground or dries up completely at the end of its course, and does not reach another body of water.

  3. Mississippi River • Longest river in North America. • Flows 2,350 miles • Starts at Lake Itasca. • Ends at the Gulf of Mexico.

  4. Nile River • 4,132 miles • Located in Africa, the Nile River lies in the following countries: Kenya, Eritrea, Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. • The longest river in the world.

  5. Amazon River • 4,000 miles • The Amazon River is located in South America. It runs through Guyana, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. • There are over 3000 known species of fish that live in the Amazon River, including piranhas. It is also home to many anacondas.
