  1. Paul Between I Cor and II Cor • Forced to flee from Ephesus • Corinthian church full of problems; Churches of Galatia were turning to “another gospel” • Supposed to meet Titus at Troas • Journeyed through Macedonia, on toward Corinth • “When we had come to Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.” (II Cor 7:5)

  2. Paul Between I Cor and II Cor • Finally met up with Titus in Macedonia • Received some good news from Corinth of godly sorrow, repentance, zeal and “vehement desire” (II Cor 7) • Also learned that the Judaizers were working hard in Corinth to discredit him

  3. The Judaizers’ Charges: II Cor • Bold only from a distance (10:1-2) • Weak in personal appearance (10:1,10,11) • Inferior in comparison (10:12) • Preached a poor edition of the gospel (11:4) • Lacked the credentials of Judaizers (11:22ff) • Not a true apostle (11:5, 12:11-12)

  4. From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. II Corinthians 11:24-28

  5. Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. II Corinthians 4:1

  6. We Do Not Lose Heart: II Cor 4 • Hold fast the Word and the ministry (1-2)

  7. We Do Not Lose Heart: II Cor 4 • Hold fast the Word and the ministry (1-2) And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. I Corinthians 2:1-5

  8. We Do Not Lose Heart: II Cor 4 • Hold fast the Word and the ministry (1-2) • Don’t be discouraged by unbelievers’ choices (3-4)

  9. We Do Not Lose Heart: II Cor 4 • Hold fast the Word and the ministry (1-2) • Don’t be discouraged by unbelievers’ choices (3-4) Why the gospel is veiled (hidden) to some: • The god of this age has blinded them • Do not want the light to shine on them
