  3. What is GOLD? • Graduates Of the Last Decade • An IEEE program that caters to recent graduates • A bridge between student and professional activities • A means of getting recent graduates easily involved in the IEEE • A network of young professionals • Leadership training

Why does IEEE need GOLD? • To provide a bridge between the academic and professional worlds • To provide a way for recent graduates to participate in the IEEE and form the next generation of IEEE leaders • Many sections especially in Canada lack the volunteers they need to run local activities

  8. Region 7 Activities • Working on creating GOLD Groups • Current groups: St. Maurice, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Kitchener-Waterloo and Hamilton • Groups forming: Southern Alberta • Working on creating a GOLD network • Applying for funding and organizing GOLD Workshops

  9. How can you help? • By keeping your membership when you graduate • By talking to your section executive about volunteering when you graduate • By having joint networking sessions where students meet recent grads • By invitingGOLD Affinity Group exec to your student branch meeting

  10. Why Be An IEEE Member? • Networking • Help your career by helping the profession • Leadership training • Technical information • EE & COMP Standards development • Financial Advantage Program

How Can GOLD Help Locally? • Organize activities of interest to younger and older professionals under a GOLD Affinity Group • Organize programs which promote GOLD member participation in chapter activities • GOLD members can run chapter activities • GOLD members can be used as a link between the section and students (e.g., mentoring) • Increase resources by recruiting new members • Hold networking meetings to encourage communication between all members

Future directions • IEEE Global: • Establish a GOLD transition package for students • Build and roll out a customizable multimedia promotional package • Build and roll out a best practices web guide • IEEE Canada: • Select a regional GOLD Coordinator for 2002-2003 • Establish a dynamic GOLD network in the region • Keep promoting GOLD Group formation and student branch/GOLD/section integration activities
