Initiative and the role of the Sava Commission • January 2010 –Initiative for the creation of web application • October 2010 – SC decided to fund a project with own funds • February 2011 – SC awarded the job after the two tender procedures • May 2011 – completion of the application building • June 2011 – application was set up for the users in four riparian countries • July 2011 – Workshop and the short period of training at the headquarters of the SC in Zagreb

Current Status and Problems Adoption and publication of the Marking Plan in the beginning of the year Separate Marking Plans for the summer and winter periods The changes are rare but not negligible Introducing the users of the waterway with latest changes in the Marking Plan Harmonization of the Marking Plans with other water administrations, particularly interesting on the common sectors of the river

Current Status and Problems Background informations are not currently visible from the Marking Plan (maintenance of signs: clearing, painting, replacement of the lamps, and other activities) Installation and maintenance costs of the marking system (total and per sign) now could be easily extracted from the application.

Questions rather than conclusions • Test period before making serious conclusions is necessary?! • Is it applicable to the Danube? • Is it applicable to other facilities for navigation safety (gauging stations, bridges, winter ports, river training structures)? • Does development of this and similar web applications contribute to the improvement of navigation conditions?
