OET Listening Tips – Part B: Presentation Accepted by the regulatory healthcare bodies and councils in various English-speaking countries, the Occupational English Test (OET) is designed specifically for nurses and other medical professionals who want to pursue their careers abroad. As an exam taker, it is essential that you hone your communications skills in an OET review center as it provides course training materials to help you understand the components of the examination. For instance, one section of the Occupational English Test is the listening sub-test.

  2. The OET Listening Sub-test The Occupational English Test (OET) listening sub-test is composed of two parts and contains 20–28 question items. The topics are related to general medical interests and are accessible to exam takers across all professions. Each part of the listening sub-test takes about 15 minutes of recorded speech, with pauses that provide time for examinees to write their answers. Furthermore, each recording will be played only once. Part B – Presentation In listening sub-test – Part B: Presentation, the examinees will hear a recording of a talk or medicalrelated issue. He/she will be given an answer booklet and are required to fill in the answers to some questions in several formats. Furthermore, the Part B – Presentation lasts for about 30 minutes.   3. Listen to a wide range of spoken English– Remember that the recordings you will hear are natural speeches from various persons who are fluent in the English language. Try to listen to people speaking English. For instance, you could listen to news stories, TV and radio shows, or podcasts. • Practice taking notes while listening to something– During your OET review classes, listen to your instructor and write down what he/she discusses. By doing this, you can improve your note-taking skills as well as your listening skills. • Maximize your time during the examination– Use your time wisely. Remember that you need to take down notes while you listen to the recordings. Use the brief pauses between question items to review your work.
