  1. Adobe Illustrator By: MinardSaladino

  2. Introduction: Illustrator is a vector-based imaging program. Unlike PhotoShop, which deals in pixels (raster images), this one deals in lines and algorithms for various shapes. It functions by generating curved paths connected by modifiable anchor points. These anchors, with their handles, are ultimately editable and never "leave" the structure of the file.

  3. Vector Graphics Making lines and curve to render image • 256 – Maximum Color • Types of Vector Graphics • CGM • Gerber Format (RS-274X • 3SVG • Other 2D vector formats • 5 3D vector formats

  4. Bitmap graphics Bitmap images (also known as raster images) are made up of pixels in a grid. Pixels are picture elements; tiny dots of individual color that make up what you see on your screen. All these tiny dots of color come together to form the images you see. Upto 16.7 Millions color choices Common bitmap format include:• BMP • GIF • JPEG, JPG • PNG • PCX • TIFF • PSD (Adobe Photoshop)

  5. Elements of Design 1. Photo Element -Picture/ Photograph 2. Graphic Element -Drawing/Illusration Types of Color 1. Solid Color –single color 2.Gradient color –mix 2 or more color

  6. Adobe Illustrator creates vector graphics made of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects called vectors. Vectors describe graphics according to their geometric characteristics. For example, a bicycle tire in a vector graphic is made up of a mathematical definition of a circle drawn with a certain radius, set at a specific location, and filled with a specific color. You can move, resize, or change the color of the tire without losing the quality of the graphic.

  7. Advantages: A vector graphic is resolution-independent -- that is, it can be scaled to any size and printed on any output device at any resolution without losing its detail or clarity. As a result, vector graphics are the best choice for type (especially small type) and bold graphics that must retain crisp lines when scaled to various sizes - - for example, logos.

  8. Vector drawings can usually be scaled without any loss in quality. This makes them ideal for company logos, maps or other objects that have to be resized frequently. Please note that not all vector drawings can be scaled as much as you like:

  9. Drawings containing trapping information can only be scaled up to 20 percent larger or smaller. Thin lines may disappear if a vector drawing is reduced too much. Small errors in a drawing may become visible as soon as it is enlarged too much.

  10. Characteristics of vector drawings Vector drawings are usually pretty small files because they only contain data about the Bézier curves that form the drawing. The EPS file format that is often used to store vector drawings includes a bitmap preview image along the Bézier data. The file size of this preview image is usually larger than the actual Bézier data themselves.

  11. It is fairly easy to create a vector based drawing that is very difficult to output. Especially the use of tiles (small objects that are repeated dozens or hundreds of times) and Corel Draw lens effects can lead to very complex files.

  12. Applications that can handle vector data There are hundreds of applications on the market that can be used to create or modify vector data. In prepress, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw are the most popular programs.
