  1. Food for thought • Do I trust God with my future? • Is His will part of my decision making? • Do I trust God with my interest even when I seem to be receiving an unfair settlement?

  2. Introduction • Abram’s faith is tested. • How he responds to these test. • How do we respond when our faith is tested?

  3. God had commanded Noah and his family to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” There was only one language on the earth. Mankind fell into pride and decided to build one city with a tower to reach to the heavens. Review

  4. Mankind rebelled against God’s will. God had no choice but to intervene. He came down and confused the language forcing mankind to stop building the city and spread throughout the earth. Mankind cannot do anything to stop the will of God. Review

  5. Abram is a descendant of Shem • Noah had three sons: • Shem • Hem • Japheth • Terah descended from the line of Shem. • He and his son Abram lived close to where the people had begun to build the great tower of Babel. • Read Genesis 11:27-30

  6. Abram is a descendant of Shem Gen 11-27-30 • Lot’s father dies • Abram marries Sarai • Sarai was not able to have children

  7. The move Read Genesis 11:31,32 • Terah takes his family and moves to Haran • Terah planned to go into Canaan, but they ended up in Haran, where Terah died. Read Act 7:2 Abram was aware of God’s commandment before they moved.

  8. The Call of Abram Genesis 12:1 • God called Abram to leave his country and family • God spoke directly with Abram • How does God speak to us today? • He speaks to us through His written Word, the Bible.

  9. Where Abram lived • Abram lived in Mesopotamia • Joshua 24:2 tells us that Abram’s father was an idolater. • The people there did not trust, love, or obey God. • Abram was a sinner because he was a descendant of Adam

  10. God is supreme and sovereign Read Acts 7:3,4 God’s plan for Abram could not be achieved while Abram was living amongst his idolatrous countrymen. Nothing can keep God from carrying out His plans and accomplishing His purposes. Calling Abram was God’s next step in His plan to deliver men from their bondage to sin. God is still the same today as He was in the days of Abram. Sometimes God calls us to get away from what’s familiar to us in order for His Will and Purpose to take effect in our lives.

  11. God’s promise to Abram Read Gen 12:2 Abram and Sarai could not have children. God promised: • Abram that he would become the father of a great nation • To protect and prosper Abram • Abram would be very important • Through him others would also receive great benefit and help.

  12. God’s promise to Abram Gen 12:3 Blessing= enable to succeed. God’s ability on your ability giving you the ability to do what you could not do on your own. God promised He would prosper those who helped Abram and bring evil upon those on anyone who treated Abram wrongly.

  13. God’s promise to Abram • ‘….in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.“ • Greatest promise of all • Foretells the coming of the Deliverer • Goes back to God’s promise in the Garden of Eden

  14. Abram believed and obeyed God Gen 12:4,5 In spite of Abram’s surroundings he believed God’s promise Abram like Noah believed God’s Word, and for that reason he obeyed God.

  15. Abram and Lot separate Read Gen 5-13 • Abram’s faith is tested • Settled a peaceful solution • Lot only thinking about how to prosper himself • Abram trusted God to prosper him • There are serious consequences when we rely on our own understanding. • Abram walked by faith not by sight
