  1. Procedures For Mr. Harder’s Classroom

  2. Lining Up at the Flagpole • Students need to be in line and ready for school to begin at our class number by the flagpole. • Mr. Harder’s class number by the flagpole is 20. • Please keep your hands to yourself and quiet mouths as we walk to the classroom.

  3. Lining up outside of class…. • Line up quickly and quietly in alphabetical order • Be respectful to other classes going by • Do not enter the room until Mr. Harder brings you in or has indicated that you may enter • Make sure you smile back 

  4. Entering the Classroom • Hang your backpack and your jacket (if you have one) on the back of your chair. • Put your homework in the tray. • Have a seat. • Start your bell work.

  5. Sitting At Your Table • Seats will be assigned and rotated throughout the year. • Sit in your own chair. • Keep all 4 of the chair’s legs on the floor. • Sit with your bottom on the seat. • Face forward in your chair.

  6. Restroom Breaks • Try to use the restroom before class begins and during lunch/recess. • If you need to use the restroom during class, raise two fingers up. If it is ok to go, Mr. Harder will motion you to get a bathroom pass. If it is not ok, he will hold his hand flat. He will point to you once it is clear. • Use the bathroom passes by the door. • Return back to class in a timely manner from the restroom. • I will monitor bathroom breaks to make sure students are not abusing that time. You will be allowed to go once per class.

  7. Give Me Three • Teacher says: “One, two, three all eyes on me.” Students say: “One, two, all eyes on you.” • Stop talking. • Look at the teacher with your eyes. • Listen to the teacher with your ears.

  8. “Class, class…” • When Mr. Harder says loudly “Class, class”…. students say: “Yes yes !” • Stop talking. • Look at the teacher with your eyes. • Listen to the teacher with your ears.

  9. Class Dojo • Class Dojo is a website that allows teachers to report both good and bad behavior for the day. • Parents and students will have a log on to view their behavior and class stories. • Students once logged on, can create their own monster/character that best represents them. • Class Dojo also allows myself or a student to upload a story. A story is something that you feel is really important you did in class and want to share it. • https://www.classdojo.com/#LearnMore

  10. Class/School Discipline • If a student misbehaves in class, they will first receive a verbal warning and/or it will be logged in Class Dojo. • If the behavior is not corrected, the student will have a conference with the teacher that day. We will discuss the behavior and agree that the behavior needs to be corrected before further action is taken. • After the student/teacher conference and the behavior is still not corrected or the behavior is severe enough, the student can receive a THINK sheet, lunch detention and/or a phone call home to parents. • Finally, if the behavior continues or if the behavior is severe enough, the student will be sent to the front office and have a conference with the principal or assistant principal.

  11. Appropriate Behavior in the Library, Assemblies, Cafeteria or Recess • Please adhere to the playground and cafeteria policies. • Please raise your hand when in the cafeteria if you need assistance. • A lunch monitor will dismiss you to leave for class. • If a student bully’s or physically harms another student purposefully, the student can lose recess, receive detention or will visit the principal/assistant principal for further corrective action. • While in the library or computer lab, please respect the property. • You will follow the same rules as we do in class, such as raise your hand for assistance or seek the teacher or librarian. Also no talking/inside voices depending on the library/assembly. Use your best judgement.

  12. Getting a Drink • Keep your water bottles at the corner of your desk/table so it is not in your way. • If your water bottle becomes a distraction, then that student(s) will have their water bottles on the back counter. • You do not have to ask to use the in-class water fountain…but Mr. Harder will not allow abuse of that privilege.

  13. Lining Up to Leave the Classroom • Wait to be dismissed. • Push in your chair. • Walk to the door. • Get behind the last person. • Stand quietly with your arms at your side or behind you. • Mouths are closed, no talking in line. We will wait until every student is quiet and ready to go.

  14. Rotating Classes • Students will be dismissed when the time permits to rotate to their other classroom. • Students are not allowed to leave until the teacher allows so, and all belongings must be backed up and ready to leave. • Students must go straight to their next classroom. If there is any horseplay or students are late consistently, then it will result in disciplinary action, based on teacher discretion.

  15. Sitting at a Study/Small Group • Your hands are safe in your lap, on your book or table/desk. • Criss-cross your legs if you are on the ground or make sure that all four legs of your chair are on the ground. • Have a quiet mouth, unless you are reading aloud. • Look and listen to the speaker.

  16. Asking a Question • Raise your hand. • Wait with a quiet mouth for me to call on you. • Ask your question. • Other students should be respectful and listen to the student’s question too.

  17. Classroom Jobs • Students will be rotated weekly on classroom jobs. • Classroom jobs include dustbuster, big trash, and turning lights on and off. • If students decide a job is too difficult or repeatedly forgets their job, then another student will take over their job.

  18. Classroom Library • Student’s will take be able to use these books while in class. • Please treat these books nicely, as if they were your own, so that other students may use them in the future. • Return the book in the same place you found it.

  19. Sharpening Pencils • You should always have at least 2-3 pencils ready to go. • Never waste time with mechanical pencils !! • If you do have to sharpen a pencil…. - Raise your hand if you need your pencil sharpened. - Exchange your pencil in the back of the room for a sharpened pencil from the sharpened can and place your dull pencil in the needs sharpened can. - Quietly and quickly go back to your seat once you received a new pencil.

  20. Cell Phone/iPad’s • Cell phones are not permitted during class time. • Cell phones may be used occasionally with teacher and parent permission during holiday parties, etc. You and your parents will be notified when this may be permitted. • iPad’s are used at the teachers discretion. For example, if you are working on a class project, to log into our Class Dojo to upload a story, etc. You again will be notified when this will be permitted. • If you are caught using your electronic devices without permission, I will hold your electronics until the end of the day and notify parents.

  21. Fire and Lockdown Drills • When the school has a fire or lockdown drill, it is really important to stay quiet and calm. • If leaving for a fire drill, you must stay quiet the entire time walking to our evacuation spot, during the duration of the drill and on the way back to class. • During lockdown drills, it is also very important to stay very quiet and calm during the duration of the drill. • If you are in the bathroom during a fire drill, please go to our evacuation spot immediately. If you are in the bathroom during a lockdown drill, please get to the closest classroom and that teacher will take attendance and notify me.

  22. Dismissal • The teacher will advise the students when it is time to start getting ready to dismiss for the day. • Students will gather their belongings and then sit back at their desk. • Stack your chairs nicely and do not stack them too high. 5-6 chairs per stack will do. • Once the teacher dismisses to line up, the students will walk and quietly line up at the door and wait for the bell to ring.
