  3. Airport Cooperative Research Program • Authorized by Congress. • Sponsored (funded) by FAA. • Currently $15 million/year. • Driven by and for the airport industry. • ACRP Oversight Committee reviews, selects, and funds projects.

  4. Airport Cooperative Research Program • Projects focus on applied research. • Volunteer panels develop scope, select contractors, oversee research, and review results. • Research contractors selected on a competitive proposal basis.

ACRP Current Status • 176 research projects authorized. • 47 starting up. • 50 research in progress. • 15 research completed. • 64 ACRP publications. • Over 700 industry volunteers participating. • Participants come from airports; airlines; consultants; academics; state and federal government; and industry associations. • Dozens of research contractors also from the airport industry.

Airport Cooperative Research Program • Our Research Process: • A Project Panel is formed. • The Panel is given the original problem statement and asked to develop a scope of work. • Proposals are solicited. • The Panel reviews all proposals and selects the best research proposal for the project. • As the contractor follows the scope developed by the Panel, the Panel oversees progress through reports, interim deliverables, teleconferences, and meetings. • The Panel is first to receive the draft report and provides comments to improve its value to the industry.

  9. Airport Cooperative Research Program • 4 ways to become involved: • Submit a research idea, also called a Problem Statement. • Volunteer to participate on a project panel. We reimburse for travel. • Prepare a proposal to conduct research. • Use our research results. www.TRB.org/ACRP
