  3. If you need to contact one of the agencies: • Equifax: 800-685-1111; www.equifax.com • Experian: 888-EXPERIAN (888-397-3742); www.experian.com • Trans Union: 800-916-8800; www.transunion.com

  4. Protect your Social Security number

  5. Check your wallet or purse

  6. Get off mailing lists

  7. Get a shredder

  8. Install a locked mailbox

  9. Don’t put bills in/on your mailbox for your postal carrier to pick up

  10. Don’t have new check supplies sent to your home

  11. Reduce the number of credit cards you use

  12. Keep a secure list (under lock & key) of all your credit cards

  13. Don’t give out your credit card number or other personal information

  14. Be careful with passwords and PINs

  15. Be aware of surroundings when paying with credit or debit cards or at the ATM

  16. Act quickly if you are victimized by an identity thief

  17. Report lost or stolen cards or checks immediately

  18. Close compromised accounts
