Future of Home Networking: Advancements in Japan's Next-Generation Standards

This initiative details the ongoing standardization efforts for home networking (HN) in Japan. The TTC KORO WG is in its third stage, focusing on the Control and Operation of homes through collaboration with ITU and the standardized Home-network Topology Identifying Protocol (G.9973). The aim is to enhance interoperability between TR-069 and G.9973 for end device control, ensuring compatibility with Japanese environments. Upcoming tasks include network middleware development and service platform standardization to facilitate seamless communication between home devices.

  1. Home Networking activities in TTC Kenji KORO TTC Next-Generation Home Network system WG

Highlight of Current Activities • Standardization about Home Networking (HN) in Japan • Now on 3rd stage of standardization • Control and Operation: propose to ITU, Standardized Home-network Topology Identifying Protocol (JJ-300.00 ->G.9973) • Considering to cooperate between TR-069 and G.9973 for end device control • G.hn: Standardized of G.hn series for suitable in Japanese network environments • New SWGstarted： The subject is to consider the system cooperation of the whole HN, especially the use-case demand from application. • Cooperation with the related SDOs and Fora • ITU-T, BB-Forum, HGI, DLNA, UPnP, etc. • Cooperation in Japan • New Generation Network Promotion Forum in Japan: IP network WG: Research technical and application demands • HATS[1] in Japan Tested NAT Traversal function between network and home equipment.   3. Strategic Direction • Although TR-069 which is control from WAN was well known, but cooperation with HN internal apparatus is not sufficient. • About this problem, we will examine to cooperate between TR-069 and G.9973 for end device control.

Challenges • Confirm interoperability of Control and Operation: Standardized Home-network Topology Identifying Protocol (G.9973)and TR-069 • Research the interference to Japanese Domestic wireless systems such as TV broadcasting, CATV, and Cellular from the new equipment related G.hnStandards （JT-G9960, JT-G9961, JT-G9972）.

  5. Next Steps / Actions • TTC will conduct the network middleware for the communication between access gateway and home terminals. • Examination and standardization of sharing of Interface to achieve service on service platform. • Service platform for several Applications. (DLNA, ECHONET…)
