  1. User Interface Improvements AASHTOWare Bridge Design/Rating User Group Training Meeting Virginia Beach – August 2013

  2. Background – User Interface Impr.’s Strong interest in User Interface Improvements expressed at 2012 User Group Meeting. Two documents forwarded afterward: • Proposed Input Revisions for AASHTOWare Bridge Rating Software – Gary Kinchen, State Bridge Load Rating Engineer, NMDOT Bridge Design Bureau • Simplified Bridge Workspace Tree View – Jim Duray, Project Manager, Michael Baker, Inc.

  3. Background – User Interface Impr.’s November 2012 Task Force meeting: • Reviewed both documents. • Decided to compile a list of six high value items pulled from both documents with the intention to incorporate the three highest ranked items in the Version 6.5 Work Plan. • After the meeting, the TF identified three specific UI improvements and asked the Contractor to estimate the top three.

  4. Background – User Interface Impr.’s January 2013 Task Force meeting: • Reviewed the cost estimates. As originally proposed, the enhancement estimates/work was high. • Discussed intent as a group, clarified purpose and the Contractor proposed alternate methods to accomplish the work. • The alternate methods resulted in meeting the original intent with a substantial reduction in cost and were incorporated into the 6.5 Work Plan.

Background – User Interface Impr.’s April 2013 Task Force meeting: • Decided to identify additional high priority/ high value User Interface items to possibly group into a task for a future Work Plan. • Broke down previous documents into UI enhancement categories. Sent to the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) prior to their May meeting. • The TAG prioritized the existing UI ideas and added a significant number of additional ideas based on group discussion.

Background – User Interface Impr.’s Six categories of UI Improvement: • Eliminating unnecessary user actions at scroll bars and drop-down menus • Reducing input • Better grouping input by association/function. • Using radio buttons to move less commonly used items of the Bridge Workspace • Simplifying the Bridge Workspace tree • Expanding the number and visibility of wizards to input specific superstructure types.

  17. Background – User Interface Impr.’s June 2013 Task Force meeting: • Reviewed the TAG results. • Directed the Consultant to develop estimates for the items determined to be Most Important.
