  2. Birth date Eleanor was born 1122 . Early life Eleanor inherited duchy of Aquitaine in April 1137 from her father William X of Aquitaine . In July 1137 Eleanor married Louis. Louis was in line for the thrown of France. Teenage years

  3. Marriage 2nd Marriage Louis became king and Eleanor became his queen. After his father died less than a month later after the marriage. Louis and Eleanor had two daughters together, Marie and Alix. During the voyage of the second crusade Eleanor and Louis drew apart. Perhaps because they had no son in line for the thrown. In March 1152 they divorced. In May 1152 Eleanor married Henry Empress in line for thrown of England. They had three daughters and five sons. The son that survived Henry became king after him. In 1173 Henry’s sons rebelled against him . Eleanor took the side of her sons. Henry confined Eleanor in 1185 .

  6. What She is Known for • She was the Queen of France and England in medieval times. • Also she ruled England in Henry II's absence. • She was the leader of only band of women allowed to be involved in the Crusades (namely, the second). • She was the mother of Richard I, the Lionhearted.

I bet you didn’t know…… • Eleanor of Aquitaine was the oldest child of the Duke of Aquitaine. • Eleanor outlived all her children but two. • Eleanor was 82 when she died which was rare for that time period. • She supported her second son's (Henry, the Young King) revolt against his father, and was imprisoned for that. She spent about sixteen years in prison in various English castles.

  8. Death Eleanor died April 1,1204 at age of 82.

  11. What is a castle? A castle is one huge building or two towers connected. A castle is made strong and nearly indestructible. They was made hundreds of years ago as a home for kings.

  12. What is inside a castle? A castle holds many things. First of all the had had a place for the royals to stay. They had a place for the servants to stay also. There was a palace, chapel, cookhouse, stables, cowsheds, and a piggery. There was also a dungeon where people who was bad had to go. There was a bakery and a brew house along with the storehouse. And most important the Great Hall.

  13. Protection Most castles get their protection from moats and guards some have it built on hills or islands to make it hard to get to. All castles are almost impossible to take down since their walls are made of thick stone for maximum protection.

  15. Who lived in a castle The king and lord our the head of the castle followed by nobles followed by knights followed by peasants.

  16. Did you know… • How a castle was built showed the owners wealth • Castles was usually built near natural defenses like mountains or wide rivers. • in order to build a castle you had to have the kings permission.
