  1. Porphyrins and metalloporphyrins as starting materials for multifunctional nanocomposites based on supramolecular architectures exhibiting optoelectronic, photochemical, electrochemical and biological properties The scientific partnership was set up between research and development institutes and universities with different domains of interest, having the purpose of connecting to the priorities and high objectives of European research interests regarding multifunctional advanced materials. OTILIA COSTISOR, ocostisor@acad-icht.tm.edu.ro Dr. ing. EUGENIA FAGADAR-COSMA, efagadar@yahoo.com The relevant core competencies are based on the fact that state-of-the-art research involves interdisciplinarity: Inorganic and organic chemistry Supramolecular chemistry Material science Electrochemistry Analytical chemistry Physics Bioinorganic Biology Human resources: Highly qualified researchers and young Master and PHD students Equipments for: Synthesis and analysis: UV-vis, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, RES, FT-IR and fluorescence spectroscopy, Scanning microscopy techniques (AFM), Thermal analysis, Cyclic voltammetry, Conductibility measurements

  3. The purpose of this projectis the research and implementation of new materials, composites and state-of-the-art techniques bounded by a central element: the synthesis and utilizations of porphyrinic macrocycles. These are molecules capable of drastically changing or adjusting their properties by reconfiguring the electron distribution of the aromatic ring in order to develop supramolecular structures, thus allowing the accomplishment of some strategic objectives related to the development of fundamental sciences (physics and chemistry), nanotechnologies, highly strategically technology domains (photovoltaic cells), safety and durability for building engineering (corrosion inhibition), monitoring the quality of the environment (electrochemical sensors) and competitive health treatments (PDT therapy of cancer). The porphyrin molecules will be assembled by different means (electrode-deposition, immobilization in polymeric membranes, functionalization etc.), as supramolecular architectures.

  4. Multicomponent synthesis of asymmetric porphyrins as new sources of ionophores, photosensitizers and dyes. • Supramolecular structures of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin peripherally diverse substituted and of their metallic complexes, as sensibility enhancers for renewable energy systems R1=R2=R3=R4= 3, 4-di MeO (1);R1=R2=R3=3, 4-di MeO; R4=3-OH (2) R1=R2= 3, 4-di MeO; R3=R4= 3-OH (cis) (3);R1=R3=3, 4-di MeO; R2=R4=3-OH (trans) (4) R1=R2=R3=3-OH; R4=3, 4-di MeO (5);R1=R2=R3=R4=3-OH (6)

  5. The formulation of porphyrin and metalloporphyrin-based sensitive polymeric membranes with the focus on electrochemical new sensors for anions or heavy metals; building functional devices (target on nano-scale devices) and monitoring life and food quality as well as the degree of pollution in the environment; Thiocyanate-selective electrodes based on: 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-(4-methoxyphenyl)-porphyrin-Co(II) The most important characteristics of the electrodes having the optimum composition of the membrane are: slope: (65.8 ± 1.0) mV/decade; linear range: 1×101–1×105 M; detection limit: 6×106 M; response time: 20 s. 5,10,15,20-Tetraphenyl)-porphyrin-Rh(III)chloride Membrane electrodes with added lipophilic cationic sites exhibit reversible and near-Nernstian response toward thiocyanate ions in the concentration range of 10-5–10-1 M, with a good stability in time. The electrodes were successfully applied to the potentiometric determination of thiocyanate in human biological samples. Iodide-selective electrode, based on: 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-pyridyl)-21,23H-porphyrin-Zn(II) The sensor exhibited a near Nernstian response with a slope of -52.2 ± 0.4 mV/decade for iodide ions over a wide concentration range from 1.0·10-1 to 7.4·10-6 M and a fast response time of 15 s.

  6. New inorganic-organic hybrid silica-porphyrin materials for development of applications in optics, electronics and catalysis.
