LISTENING – PART 3 1 E There isn't much to do round here at weekends, so I usually go to the shopping centre with my friends. We go to loads of shops and try stuff on, it's all too expensive for us but it's something to do. Most of it looks really bad on me as I'm really tall and thin but I've got used to what kind of clothes look good on me - things like long jumpers and skinny jeans. So when I've got some money, I know exactly what to look for. I like to have my friends with me though for a second opinion.
LISTENING – PART 3 2 F Most of my friends want to get all the latest stuff but I never really know what to buy. So when I go to get something new, I try to get what my mates are wearing. Mostly we wear jeans and hoodies and, if we can afford them, designer T-shirts. They never really go out of fashion. I like going round the shops and looking at what's there but I'm not good at deciding and I'm not very adventurous with colours and styles. When I've got a lot of money, then I might decide to keep up with the latest fashions.
LISTENING – PART 3 3 A My mum and my sister and I often go shopping together. We have a good time, especially if my mum is feeling generous, but she obviously likes different things from me. She thinks I should wear bright cheerful things, whereas I like to wear grey or black. She also thinks that being well-dressed is really important, so I should buy things that look smart and will last but I prefer to buy cheap clothes I can replace. I love going shopping with my best friend too. We've got completely different tastes but we like getting each other's opinions all the same.
LISTENING – PART 3 4 C It annoys me that all the shops have the same things in them, then the fashion suddenly changes and one day everybody's wearing long shorts and then the next day the latest thing is tight black jeans. Some styles really suit some people but not others, so it doesn't really work. I usually go shopping on my own because I find most of the chain stores a bit boring and I'm looking for stuff that will make me look different from my friends. I do find it eventually - sometimes it's just an unusual colour but often I invent my own fashion. Some of it might look a bit strange but I don't mind.
LISTENING – PART 3 5 H I've been interested in clothes since I was little, when I used to argue with my mum about what I would wear – I used to refuse to wear colours that didn't match and I'm still the same. I take ages to get ready in the morning because I want to look stylish and elegant. It's not because I want people to notice me but because I feel better about myself when I've taken a bit of time. My friends like to get dressed up in the best clothes when they go out but the rest of the time they just wear jeans and a T-shirt. That's not for me.
