2012 ISCMEM Annual Meeting Group 4 - Distributed Watershed and Water Quality Model Development Billy Johnson (USACE) – Co-Group Leader LajAhuja (ARS) – Co-Group Leader Presented by: Zhonglong Zhang November 9, 2012
Discussion Items • Group Objectives • Members • Current Group Activities • Future Directions
Working Group 4 Objectives The objectives of this working group are to foster technology transfer in the form of sharing basic knowledge and, where applicable, sharing modules/tools for the betterment of the modeling community. The hope is that through this technology transfer, collaborations between individual agencies and individual researchers can be achieved such that joint projects and research development efforts can be initiated.
Working Group 4 Current Activities • Webinars • Webinar – Object Modeling System (OMS) – presented by Dr. Olaf David • Training Range Environmental Evaluation and Characterization System (TREECS) – presented by Dr. Mark Dortch and Dr. Billy Johnson
Working Group 4 Current Activities • TREECS Development and Validation • Chernobyl Demonstration using TREECS – model results presented during the TREECS Webinar • Participated in the 2012 iEMSs Workshop D9 – The Community for Integrated Environmental Modeling (CIEM): Current Status and Future Direction – July, 2012, Leipzig, Germany
Working Group 4 Future Directions • Develop a SERDP (or other funding source) proposal for integration of the EPA Environmental Fate Simulator (EFS) into TREECS. • A meeting was held on November 6, 2012 to discuss a joint proposal • Continue pursuing funding to facilitate the application of GSSHA-CTT&F to the Chernobyl site (Discussed last year) • Ukrainian partners have had some success in attracting funding for data collection activities • To date, no funding sources have been identified for the modeling components of the joint scope of work that was developed
