  1. Design, Manufacture, Transport and Integration on-site in Chile of ALMA Antennas • Technical status on CFRP • PM#07 13-14 September 2006

  2. Requirements from Design • Resin System Main mechanical properties: • E: 3200 MPa • G: 1203 MPa • αt: 52.10-6 1/K • Others properties • Typical Maximum Moisture on composite Mm = 1% at 53%RH T= 20°C, It correspond to Mm=6.5% of resin at RH=100%, in our composite actually we have 0.2% Mm. ad 53%RH • Moisture expansion coefficient: 0.0417 for T700/with resin, Layup 0/90 • Moisture expansion coefficient: 0.0252 for HM65/with resin, Layup 0/90 • Diffusivity D=1.335e-8 at T=273K • Diffusivity D=3.330e-9 at T=293K • The resin system must by UV stable.

  3. Fibres Toray T700 • Number of filaments: 12000 • Tensile Strength: 4900 MPa • Tensile Modulus: 230 GPa • Elongation: 2.1 % • CTE: -0.41.10-6 1/K • Mass per unit Length: 800 (g/1000m) • Density: 1.80 g/cm3 • Electric Resistivity: 1,7 13-3Ω.cm • Thermal conductivity: 20 W7mK Mitshubishi K63712 (HM65) • Number of filaments: 12000 • Tensile Strength: 2600 MPa • Tensile Modulus: 640 GPa • Elongation: 0.4 % • CTE: -1.1.10-6 1/K • Mass per unit Length: 2000 (g/1000m) • Density: 2.12 g/cm3 • Electric Resistivity: 0.3 13-3Ω.cm • Thermal conductivity: 1 40 W/mK

  4. Honeycomb materials The sandwich core is a standard aluminium alloy honeycomb. The honeycomb is anodised for corrosion protection and Glass fibre will be used as interface layer beetween CFRP an honeycomb. The cells are vented in order to achieve a uniform atmosphere within the sandwich. • For adhesive bonding of the facing and the core an epoxy resin is used. • Hexcel Alumunim honeycomb CR-PAA-3/16-5052-.001-3.1 • Material AA5052 • Density 49,66 kg/m3 • Young Modulus 70 GPa • CTE: 23.10-6 1/K • Thermal conductivity: 150 W/mK

  5. General Prepreg Properties FABRIC T700 : 12K–2x2T • Resin TBD • Fibre TORAY T700S 12K • 40% of resin (mass) • Mass 285 g/m² (dry fiber) • Width 1 m (TBC with supplier) • E1: 59 GPa • E2: 59 GPa • G12: 3,200 GPa • αt1: 4.6*10-6 1/K • αt2: 4.6*10-6 1/K UD : HM63712 12K • Fibre MITSUBISHI K63712 • Resin TBD • 31% of resin • Mass 312 g/m² • Widht 0,6 m (TBC with supplier) • E1av: 335 GPa • E2: 5.6 GPa • G12: 3.200 MPa • αt1: -0.85*10-6 1/K • αt2: 26*10-6 1/K UD T700 : • Resin TBD • Fibre TORAY T700S 12K • 36% of resin • Mass 325 g/m² (dry fiber) • Width 1 m (TBC with supplier) • E1: 135.000 GPa • E2: 8,7 GPa • G12: 3,20 GPa • αt1: 0,38*e-6 1/K • αt2: 38*e-6 1/K

  6. General Layup • In the specific dravings will be drowned the lamination direction and the layup type. • Surface Film properties The surface film must be compatible with the resin system for 30 years time life. It must offer a good UV protection and must be compatible with a direct application of polyurethane paint.
