  1. What’s Happening in October!!! Ms. Horsley – Room 133 Fall Festival 2012 On October 20th we will have our annual Fall Festival! Join our school community for a great turkey dinner, cake walk and games! Top off your night by staying for our auction! Auction items will include donations by local businesses and homeroom baskets. Check out last years auction! So we can make sure we have a good idea of what we have and what we still need. I’d like to move the due date of basket items up a couple of days before the fall festival, please make sure you have your chocolate items in by Oct. 16th!This would really help out!! The money made from our basket will go towards new classroom library books, eBooks and center activities! Think outside the box! Items for our basket already include: chocolate coffees, cookbooks, hot cocoa and dessert fudge toppings! Check out T.J. Maxx, Kohl’s and Sam’s! They have some great chocolate deals going on right now! Please let me know if you’d like to volunteer to work games! MAP Testing As a school, we recently finished up our first round of MAP testing! Our second grade here at Piner Elementary did amazing on the district level!! Out of all elementary schools in the district, we rated 1st in reading and 2nd in math and language! For their first time taking MAPs in the new format for grades 2-5, this is awesome! In the new format, students take the same test as the upper grades and they are required to read the test themselves instead of having it read to them. From the student’s MAP scores, I have placed them in leveled reading groups with differentiated assignments and am working to fully implementing leveled math groups as well as MAP folders (Making Awesome Progress)! I know that we’ll continue to make gains with all this hard work we’re doing! Important Date: Picture Day – Oct. 23rd
