  1. Isaiah 2:1-3 • The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. • And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. • And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

  2. Living Like God Applied

  3. Introduction: God Desires Us To Think Like Him Father - Isaiah 55:6-10; Ezekiel 18:19-32 Son – Isaiah 2:3; Matt. 11:28-30; Phil. 2:5; John 14:9 Spirit – Romans 8:5; 1 Cor. 2:8-13 God Desires Us To Live Like Him Father – Matt 5:43-48 Son - John 13:13-17 Spirit - Galatians 5:22-25

  4. Romans God saves by faith through the gospel (Rom. 1:16-17). Jew and Gentile all under sin (Rom. 1:18-3:23). Abraham father of all who are of faith (Rom. 4) Faith justifies (Rom. 5). Faith makes one free (Rom. 6). Law apart from faith can’t justify (Rom. 7). In Christ one is free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8). God chose the means of salvation for all (Rom. 9) Jews missing out of God’s salvation (Rom. 10) Jews were natural branch being left out hope remains (Rom. 11) How Jew and Gentile in Christ to behave (Rom. 12).

  5. Romans 11:32-36 • For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

  6. Bring God A Sacrifice I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service (12:1). We are made of body and spirit (Matt. 10:28). Both belong to God (1 Cor. 6:20). Therefore we are to present them to God in offering. God gave a sacrifice John 1:29; 3:16.

  7. Get A New Way Of Thinking • And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (12:2). • Our minds determine our actions. • We transform our lives by renewing our minds. • He will teach us of His ways. • His ways will be our ways, when our thoughts are His thoughts!

  8. Humbly Serve • For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. • Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness (12:3-8). • Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus. . .

  9. Love and Hate God Does • Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good (12:9). • 1. Genuine = unfeigned, sincere • 2. Abhor = detest • 3. Hold fast = glue • We must hate what God hates; we must love what God loves. We must not reverse this!

  10. Love and Honor Others • Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. (ESV)Rom 12:10 • Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; (KJV)Rom 12:10 • To lead the way; show deference John 13:1-13

  11. Live As To The Lord • Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord (12:11). • 1. slothful -1) sluggish, slothful, backward • 2. fervent - 1) to boil with heat, be hot Husbands, wives, children, employees. Christians toward God. Christians toward one another.

  12. Match Disposition With Circumstances • Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer (12:12). • Hope – desire plus expectation. • Patient – persevere in suffering • Constant – steadfastly attentive • Life is filled with challenges they can’t be avoided.

  13. Give To Others In Need • Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality (12:13). • Give to needs • Of Saints (Acts 4-6) • Seek = given to, run after • God sought us Rom. 8:32; Acts 20:35

  14. Be Like God • Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them (12:14). • But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matt 5:44-45). • He will teach us of his ways we will walk in his paths . . .

  15. Share With Others Good and Bad • Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep (12:15). • Celebrate • Empathize • There are births and deaths. • Life is not all sunshine, neither is it all rain.

  16. Live With A Clear Conscience • Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all (12:16-18). • Train your conscience by God’s word. • Do what you believe is right, avoid doing what you believe is wrong.

  17. Practice Self Control • Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (12:19-21)
